Greetings friends from a cyber café in Benin, West Africa!!  As you may already know I have been in Benin for the past 2 weeks doing a seminar on Principles for Spiritual Growth. It has been going very well. I am near the end of my time here in Benin. I leave for Canada on February 05/09.

It has been so good being back here in the country we have called home for the past 18 years. The warm welcome and smiling faces are a reminder to me that the Beninese love God and His Word and are eager to grow in their faith. Teaching every night has been exhausting but the interaction has been enriching and the questions enlightening. Do pray for those who attended the seminar that they may apply what they have learned over the past few weeks. It is so easy to attend a seminar of this nature and simply see it as info that is for others and not for them too.

Pray for Kim and the boys as they have been on their own for the last little while. Kim is tired, but by Gods’ grace she has gotten through a very busy schedule with the boys exams and helping Jonathan fill our university forms, etc. Of course the extra snow has added to her work load ... thankfully we also have 3 boys who are there to shovel too!!

While in Benin I also took the opportunity to get together with our SIM and church leaders and discuss their view of having SIM Québec send short-term and long-term teams to Benin. Our discussions were excellent as we discussed what the Benin field would like to see accomplished by short-term team visits. We discussed what kind of workers they would like to have come to Benin and also what areas of ministry they would like to have the workers do. All in all it was a good eye opener.

Upon my return to Canada we will have a few other missionary conferences to attend before starting our new ministry with SIM in the province of Quebec.  Our goal is to work with other SIMers in Quebec in the area of mobilizing people to consider short-term and long-term involvement in missions. This will involve lots of visits to churches as well as training session to those who feel called to serve God on a team.

Starting in March 2009, I will be heading back to French studies a couple of days a week so as to bring my French level up to speed. It is important to have a good level of French here in the province of Quebec so as to communicate clearly SIMs goals and strategies in this province.

Kim has been asked to come on board 2 days a week and will more then likely be involved in the area of ESL as there are many folks who are interested in perfecting their English skills. Kim did this for over 8 years in Benin and loves this type of work.

Finally do pray for our kids as they have just finished their mid-term exams. On a whole they went very well. Pray for Jonathan as he works until August 2009 and then seeks to start university either at McGill University or Concordia. He has filled out the required forms and taken the English entrance exam at Concordia.

That about brings you all up to date as to what has been happening in our lives over the past month or so.

Thank you so much for praying for us and sustaining us also with your finances. Kim and I appreciate you all very much.

Lord willing our paths will cross soon.

Until then, may God keep you in His grip and keep your hearts close to our Master!

Maranatha!
